Violin

Praised for her sensitivity and remarkable tone, Hong Kong-born violinist Angela Chan is recognized as a leading artist of her generation. Winner of the 2024 Hannover Joseph Joachim Violin Competition, she also received the prize for best interpretation of the commissioned work. Other accolades include first prize and best concerto interpretation at the 2017 Louis Spohr Violin Competition, as well as laureate honors at the Singapore International Violin Competition and Shanghai Isaac Stern Competition. As a soloist, Angela has performed with esteemed orchestras such as the NDR Radiophilharmonie, Staatskapelle Weimar, Singapore Symphony, and China Philharmonic. Her recital appearances span major cities, including Boston, Washington, Milan, and Hong Kong. An accomplished chamber musician, she is the founder of the award-winning AYA Piano Trio and has collaborated with renowned musicians like Nobuko Imai, Arnaud Sussmann, Ning Feng, and Gary Hoffman. She has appeared at festivals such as Verbier, Marlboro, and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. Angela began violin studies at age three, trained under Michael James Ma, Vera WeiLing Tsu, and later Shmuel Ashkenasi, Pamela Frank, and Aaron Rosand at the Curtis Institute of Music. She earned her master’s degree with Donald Weilerstein at the New England Conservatory and is currently Artist-in-Residence at the Queen Elizabeth Music Chapel under Augustin Dumay.
