Nathan Bick

Executive Director

Nathan Bick is an arts and nonprofit leader whose work sits at the intersection of artistic vision and sustainable growth. With more than 15 years of experience, he has guided organizations through moments of transformation by building meaningful relationships, shaping ambitious fundraising strategies, and strengthening the systems that allow creativity to flourish. Over the course of his career, he has secured more than $65 million in philanthropic support through a deeply personal, relationship-driven approach.

He currently serves as Executive Director of Development for the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, where he leads a team of five and helps chart fundraising strategy across the medical campus. His efforts have contributed to $65 million in annual giving, including landmark gifts such as $30 million for the Stravitz-Sanyal Liver Institute and $5 million for medical student scholarships—investments that will shape lives for generations.

At the Oregon Bach Festival, Bick led a development program that raised $22 million in just two and a half years, becoming the first unit at the University of Oregon to meet its campaign goal. There, he deepened his understanding of the festival form—its rhythm, its audience, and its potential to create lasting artistic and communal impact.

He began his executive career as the founding Executive Director of VAE: Cincinnati’s Vocal Arts Ensemble, where he brought two Grammy Award–winning conductors to serve as Artistic Director and forged partnerships that elevated the ensemble’s national profile.

Bick’s leadership is grounded in clarity, collaboration, and a belief that great art depends on both inspired vision and the structures that sustain it.
